Creating Back Links

Forum Promotion SEO Techniques
By:  Daniel Cohen

Let's say that you we're to pay 100k unique forums to add a url link to your website. Theoretically, your thinking you now have 100k "link backs".

STOP RIGHT NOW!   That's not the way it works.

A link to or from your website constitutes the "ingredients" of a linkback, but Google doesn't automatically give you "link back" credit.

Only about 18%-26% of the url "back links" that are recorded on 3rd party websites are actually accredited as a backlink.  That is a known fact. The difference between 18% and 26% really depend on the SEO approach.

To begin, let us first establish that there are 2 types of Search Engine Optimization, hence "Passive" & "Aggressive".

The "aggressive" approach is to create websites, forum & blog posts, etc., that speak directly to the search engines.  All titles, content text, etc., that are written on 3rd party websites must include the URL name of your website and strong keywords helping search engines easily read and categorize your website.

Publishing posts with a url name in the title are often written off as spam by forum webmasters.  Since dynamic forums are spidered often by major search engines, even if a webmaster erases a post, the contents of the post can most often still be found in search engine results.

Go to Google.com right now and make a search for any random query.  You will notice something very interesting. Google publishes (actually Highlights) the Titles of all search engine results.  Everything about Google is Titles, Titles,  and More Titles.   The little black text under the title is insignificant if the title doesn't talk to you.  As users, we are visually adapted to reading through the titles to determine if the results are relevant to our original search engine query.  So by publishing your url in the title of a forum/blog thread, you are commanding Google to publish your domain and make your url relative to the other keywords that you list within the title.

Example Forum Title:
MySite.com vs. MySpace - Which Social Website Dominates the Internet?

Note:  The forum title assumes that MySite.com is relative to Myspace.com.   We want people to recognize yoursite with another popular top 10 site.  The method is called "hitch-hiking on success".   The ideas is to cause Google to categorize your site as a social website, therefore we've also added in a popular social website and included in additional relative keywords.  Do not waste valuable keyword space in the title using irrelevant words.  Everything in the title must be a keyword.

This concludes your first lesson learning SEO Success!
